Is AI the ultimate tool to enable us to increase our productivity?

IA & Responsabilités

introduction:

Some AI respond to coding interviews at Google or even pass a degree. A recent study shows that the quality of code has declined since AI has been among us.

So, we can ask ourselves: Is AI the ultimate tool enabling us to increase our productivity?

our vision:

Our feeling is that yes, it does offer a real advancement, allowing us to develop more rapidly as long as the prompts are well formulated. However, with great power comes great responsibility.

As was the case before copying and pasting a solution found on the internet (thank you StackOverflow), without understanding how it works, is ultimately not a sustainable solution.

As the CEO of Github points out: “the developer remains the expert, who understands the code and verifies that what has been synthesized by artificial intelligence corresponds to the developer’s intention.” It is therefore THE responsibility of the developer to judge whether the proposed solution is relevant for their bug, feature, or project.

A recent study on GitHub Copilot demonstrates a decrease in overall code quality and a significant amount of redundant code.

to conclue:

We can draw two conclusions:

  • Either developers have blind trust in what AI produces and thus abandon their responsibilities,
  • Or the generated code is not made by a developer.

The founder of GitClear explains that: “the technical debt of companies could greatly increase in the future.”

If this trend continues, we will end up with developments even more difficult to maintain.

Dear developers, let’s take control, let’s use AI wisely so that this tool complements our daily lives, enabling us to unleash its full potential.
